Math Editor

The Math Editor
The learner view
The benefits of adding a Math Editor to your application:
| 1. | It allows learners to enter a formula which is depicted graphically. |
| 2. | Formula's can be entered relatively simple by clicking buttons on a calculator pad. |
| 3. | When the learner closes the editor, the formula's entered are automatically saved in a logfile. |
The authoring view
The author can specify which buttons have to be visible for the learner. Also, the underlying command for each button can be altered. In this way you can add buttons with new variables, symbols, or even parts of formula's. The Math Editor works with a code language named MimeTeX.
To modify the Math Editor:
| 1. | Select it in the application window, right click and choose Edit. |
| 2. | Go to the Specification tab sheet. |
| 3. | In the Label column, enter the text you want to be visible on the button. |
| 4. | In the Math column, enter the underlying code for that button. This can be either a number, a variable name (e.g. x, a3, velocity) or a Mimetex operator (e.g. \partial, \huge, \lim, etc..). More information about these operators can be found below. |
| 6. | In the Args column, specify the number of characters to be entered as input for that particular command. |
| 7. | In the Visible column, click the checkbox if you want the button to be shown in the learner view of the Math Editor. |
Math operators
Operators to use can be found at: http://www.forkosh.dreamhost.com/source_mimetex.html#examples
NOTE: In the next version of SimQuest help we will give an overview of the most used operators.
