Tools

 

You use the Tools menu to get an overview of the controls structure of your application elements, to set learner window positions, and to set preferences.
 
Learning Conditions

 

Opens a window in which you can drop an assignment, explanation, or interface and next shows you what controls you have specified on this element. It helps you to get a quick overview of the control structure of your application elements.

 

Learner Window Positions

 

Opens an editor with which you can store the positions of the different windows. Once you specified a position, the next time this window is opened it will always appear at the saved location. Act as follows:

 

1.In the Tools menu, select Learner Window Positions. The Window Position Editor appears on the screen.
2.In the Application window, select an interface, explanation, or assignment, click your right mouse button and choose Run.
3.Drag this element to the desired place. If you want, you can correct the Position and Size of the element manually by using the value fields at the bottom of the editor.
4.In the Window area of the Window Position editor, select the window you want to set the position of. Click on Raise Window to bring the window forward. Use Read Window to reload the coordinates of the window into the editor.
5.Decide if you want the position to count for All application elements of this class (e.g. interfaces, explanations, or assignment windows), or just for this one by clicking the appropriate radio button. You can also choose to restore the Default position for that particular window or class of windows.
6.Click Save position.
7.Optionally, select the Start-up layout of the Learner window from the drop-down menu.
8.Click Close.

 

Language

 

Lets you select the language for the Authoring and Learner Environment.

 

Update Language Catalogs

 

Loads the latest language catalogs. For more info, click here.

 

Preferences

 

Here you can adjust the options and settings of both the Authoring and Learner environment. A menu with 6 tab sheets will open when you choose this option. Detailed help for each of these is found below.

 

Tab sheet: Layout

 

Here you can indicate the sizes and positions of interfaces, assignments and explanations in the Learner view. Indicate if you want to use the Standard Layout or a Specific Layout. When using a specific layout, choose one of the eight configurations.

 

Tab sheet: Text

 

On this tab sheet you can specify the default font that is used within the SimQuest Authoring environment. Choose from Small, Medium, Large or Fixed. The changes will take effect the next time you open SimQuest.

 

Tab sheet: Path Preferences

 

Here you specify where the application and its resources should be stored:

 

1.In the Image Path area, type the directory where you want to store your image files.
2.In the Video Path area, type the directory where you want to store your video files.
3.In the Sound Path area, type the directory where you want to store your sound files.
4.In the Html Path area, type the directory where you want to store your html files.
5.In the External Simulation Path area, type the directory where you want to store your external application files.
6.In the Catalog Path area, type the directory where you want to store your catalog files.
7.In the Default Application Path area, type the name of the application you want to automatically load when Simquest is started.
8.In the Library Path area, specify where you want Library elements to be retrieved from. The elements from a SimQuest application saved in this folder will automatically appear at the bottom of the Library tree.

 

Tab sheet: Author Environment

 

Several settings for the Authoring Environment are found on this tab sheet.

 

1.Select the Author Environment tab sheet.
2.If you want information about SimQuest system actions to be visible at the bottom of the screen, click the Status Line Visible check box
3.If you want to be warned for missing specifications or forgetting to save, etc., click the Show Confirmation Dialogs check box.
4.If you want to to Display Feedback Equations, click the check box.
5.Click Expand application hierarchy at page turn if you want all folders to open when you change tab sheets.
6.Decide if you want to write your application in a single language or in multiple languages, by clicking the appropriate radio button. Using this option you can directly see e.g. assignment texts in two languages in various editors.
7.Click Apply.

 

Tab sheet: Learner Environment

 

The settings available for the Learner Environment are found here. Specify:

 

1.... whether Completed elements should remain visible.
2.... whether SimQuest should Log Learner Actions. Specify a path and a filename for the log files.
3.... whether Test results should be visible to the learner after a test was completed.

 

Tab sheet: Player

 

On this tab sheet you can specify the location of the program in which you want Sounds and Videos to be played and JPEG images to be displayed.

 

Tab sheet: Help and Advice

 

To specify the path where Help and Advice texts are found. Normally, there is no need for changing these.

 

Application Properties

 

Opens a small pop-up window where you can specify a name for the current application, as well as its default language. When you specify a default language, this will be the language in which both SimQuest itself and the application will be loaded by default in the authoring or learner view.
